
Services
A special education advocate will help parents make sure a child's special education needs are met. The advocate will plan, prepare, and support parents during each step of the IEP and 504 Plan process by:
Helping parents understand available services, interpret test results, and work with the schools to create an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Reviewing educational records and assessment reports
Addressing identified learning challenges and overlooked factors that may be affecting the child's ability to learn
Aiding in obtaining the child's eligibility for Special Education services
Providing insight as to parents’ rights regarding participation in their child's education
Empowering parents to give a voice to their child and to collaborate with the school to secure the most comprehensive version of their child's Individualized Education Plan
Advising parents about goals, accommodations, services, and programs that meet their child's individual needs.
Drafting written requests, responses, and complaints to the school district
Drafting written complaints to the State Department of Education
Preparing parents for IEP and 504 meetings by reviewing student materials (i.e., assessments, report cards, etc.) and gathering supporting evidence from outside resources (i.e., tutors, doctors, etc.)
Checking special education documents for accuracy and completion during the IEP and 504 processes
Providing guidance and support navigating the In Home Support Services (IHSS) process
